Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Section 204 is a new food regulation intended to allow for faster identification and rapid removal of potentially contaminated food from the market, resulting in fewer foodborne illnesses and/or deaths. The regulation requires a significant shift in how Walmart Inc. and our suppliers effectively manage and track the journey the food takes to reach our customers and members. In response, we expect all food suppliers to comply with these enhanced traceability requirements.
What's Changed for D94 Produce Suppliers
A new “FSMA Section 204 Traceability” attribute has been added in our item catalog. This attribute indicates whether each item is on the Food Traceability List (i.e., subject to the FSMA 204 regulation).
For some D94 Produce items, we have prepopulated the attribute value based on estimates from existing product data. Suppliers of these items must review the attribute, at the item level, for accuracy and edit if needed. Refer to the instructions below.
For all other D94 Produce items that do not have the attribute value prepopulated, you are responsible for self-declaring whether the item is subject to the regulation. Refer to the instructions in Self-Declaring FSMA Section 204 Traceability.
Once you have reviewed/self-declared the FSMA attribute for all of your D94 Produce items, you must submit this survey to provide confirmation.
Refer to this Food Traceability Requirements page for more detailed information. As a reminder, these enhanced food traceability requirements are applicable to all food products. Walmart's monitoring and enforcement strategy will begin with products subject to the regulation.
