Imagery Tagging

Updated 2 weeks ago by Merch Transformation Change Management

Imagery tagging allows you to identify the type of main, secondary/additional, or supporting imagery. While tagging images, you can also indicate whether they should or should not be visible on Walmart.com.

Images visible on site provide information to help customers browse and make purchasing decisions:

  • Identify detailed product information like ingredients and usage instructions.
  • Find accurate size information (i.e., product dimensions) to plan for storage and usage.
  • View the information typically found on the back of the retail packaging.
  • View product information like brand statements and certifications.
  • View a close-up of the product or a swatch detail.

Images not visible on site help Walmart associates and partners in various use cases like pickup or delivery:

  • Identify the correct product in its retail packaging.
  • Understand how the product fits within the store layout or shelving modules.
  • Identify the correct case pack.
  • Identify the correct pallet.
  • Match the product identifier.

Which Images Should Be Tagged?

While the imagery tagging functionality is available for all product images and items, we recommend focusing on images for items sold in Walmart stores. Review your images and make sure the optimal image is labeled for the purpose of in-store fulfillment, which will reduce nil picks and increase customer satisfaction.

Store Items - Just-Like-Shelf Image

In most cases, the optimal image for store fulfillment is the just-like-shelf image (i.e., the image reflecting what a customer or store order fulfillment associate sees on the shelf when picking an order). This image should be identified as the "Front of Product In Packaging" image when selecting the image type.

If you have an item sold in Walmart stores, make sure that you:

  1. Provide a silo image of the front of the product in its packaging:
Follow Walmart Style Guide guidance to determine if this image should be the Main Image URL or a Secondary/Additional Image.
  2. Select the image type as "Front of Product in Packaging":
The image labeled as the Front of Product in Packaging image type will be prioritized to send to store associates when picking orders.

Examples

Exceptions to This Guidance

For some product types, the optimal image for store fulfillment is not the Front of Product in Packaging image. Large items, in particular, may be better served by providing part of the packaging, such as the end of the box, to help store fulfillment associates locate and pick the item.

  • If, and only if, the best picture for store fulfillment is something other than the Front of Product in Packaging image, you may select the "Store Picking" image type for an image to prioritize it above all other images for in-store fulfillment.
  • Only one image should be selected as the Store Picking Image.
  • If this image is set to "Visible on Walmart.com", it must meet Style Guide requirements for image quality.
  • You may also provide an image that is "Not Visible on Walmart.com" and select it as the Store Picking image. In this case, the image must be a clear and legible image.
Refer to our Imagery Tagging FAQs for best practices, examples, and answers to frequently asked questions.
